President Trump’s disparaging comments in an Oval Office meeting last week about Haiti and “shithole” (or “shithouse”) African countries felt like the immigration debate had reached a new place. It has — but not just because of that meeting. There’s been a massive conservative shift in the ongoing debate over immigration. With Republicans in control […]
Donald Trump’s Fake News Awards didn’t exactly go to plan. In fact, it was a shitshow.
Jimmy Kimmel relished in the non-event that was Trump’s made up award show, meant to criticize news outlets that aren’t Fox & Friends, on his show Wednesday night.
One of Trump’s main regular targets is CNN, so Kimmel had anchor “Wolf Blitzer” (or rather, Kimmel’s own dad playing Blitzer) accepting the “Most Dishonest and Corrupt Media Award.” It was a trophy of a child’s fist, giving a middle finger.
“First I want to thank our fake news writers, who tirelessly made up brilliant bullshit all year long. I want to thank our special effects team who made it look like the president threw paper towels at Puerto Ricans,” said “Blitzer.” Read more…
Yes, we’re having this discussion.
As the fallout over Trump’s alleged remark about the U.S. accepting people from “shithole” countries continues, we might be all getting angry about the wrong word.
The word uttered, according to a tweet by Washington Post’s White House reporter Josh Dawsey, apparently might be “shithouse.”
U.S. President Donald Trump caused another global controversy last week by allegedly referring to countries such as Haiti and El Salvador, as well as unspecified African nations, as ‘shitholes.’ The comments, made in a meeting with lawmakers at the White House, were dismissive of potential immigrants from these countries, and have been widely condemned as racist and divisive by the global media.
Nice work for 12 days.
I was listening to The Read recently — it’s my favorite podcast — and I was struck by co-host Kid Fury’s observations about reaching the end of the year and feeling tired.
I posted how I felt on Instagram: “Can’t add one more plan tired. Hard to get excited about exciting things tired. Can’t project, assume, or read minds tired. I’m letting myself be tired, be imperfect, be how I am. It is time to hibernate and make meaning of this year, understand the lessons.”
Five hundred people gave it a heart within a few hours. People reached out to me to say they are also tired — exhausted, really. Falling out in meetings, losing things, fighting with loved ones, letting hopelessness have our tongues. Read more…
Trump’s racist comment about “shithole” countries shocked with its crudity, leaving the press figuring out how to deal with the word.
The U.S. president used the word to refer to Haiti, El Salvador and other African countries. Trump questioned why its people were were coming to America, and asked lawmakers why the U.S. didn’t accept more people from Norway, a majority Nordic (white) country.

The “adult day-care centre” that is the White House is getting even cattier, with the president referring to Steve Bannon as “Sloppy Steve” in a tweet.
The feathers are flying in the White House, and on the front of the New York Daily News.
The publisher has revealed quite the cover, depicting President Donald Trump and former White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon as chickens engaged in a “cuck fight.”
The cover is something to behold, fronting a feature unpacking Trump’s claim that Bannon “lost his mind” for calling Donald Trump Jr.’s Trump Tower meeting with a Russian lawyer “treasonous.”
If you’re not across it, a “cuck” is a dismissive term used by the so-called alt-right to belittle men associated with liberal politics as weak and effeminate. (It’s literal shorthand for a man being sexually cuckolded by a woman.) Read more…
Pete Souza is back with more Instaburns for Donald Trump, after the latest scary-beyond-all-reason tweet from the president.
The former Chief Official White House Photographer during the Obama Administration, Souza has posted two images on Instagram in response to President Trump’s boast on Twitter that his “nuclear button” was bigger than the one apparently on North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s desk.
North Korean Leader Kim Jong Un just stated that the “Nuclear Button is on his desk at all times.” Will someone from his depleted and food starved regime please inform him that I too have a Nuclear Button, but it is a much bigger & more powerful one than his, and my Button works!
The president of the United States possibly made another threat of nuclear war on Twitter, but the company doesn’t seem to think the post breaks any of its rules.
Donald Trump boasted on Twitter about how his nuclear button was bigger than North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s, and people are calling (again) for the president to be banned from the platform.
President Donald Trump is often accused of living in his own personal fantasy world where white supremacists are “very fine people” and New Jersey muslims celebrated the 9/11 attack. So it is perhaps fitting that his New Year’s Eve celebration at Mar-a-Largo has, according to The Washington Post, a “modern fantasy garden” theme.
And while we’re excited to see what mythical bullshit takes root in such a gathering of sycophants and enablers, we also can’t help but note that Team Trump passed up a wonderful opportunity to explore other themes perhaps more germane to the 45th presidency of these great United States. Read more…
