Elon Musk announces an early February launch plan for Falcon Heavy

Elon Musk’s “week or so” until the Falcon Heavy launch is now looking like it’ll be closer to two weeks.

The SpaceX founder confirmed on Twitter that he’s “aiming” to have a Feb. 6 launch for the private aerospace company’s largest rocket to date. It will lift off from the Apollo launchpad 39A at Cape Kennedy, Musk tweeted.

“Easy viewing from the public causeway.”

SpaceX is about to have a very big moment.

The Elon Musk-founded company is all set to stage the first true test of its Falcon Heavy rocket, the huge new launcher expected to loft SpaceX’s dreams of a future filled with rockets to new heights.

A new video from the private spaceflight outfit shows off the Falcon Heavy waiting in Cape Canaveral, Florida for its big debut moment.

Getting to explore space sounds pretty darn cool, but the experience comes with many sacrifices. Sure, time away from family must be rough, but one of the most heartbreaking losses is having to leave delicious pizza behind on Earth.

Paolo Nespoli‏, an Italian astronaut who’s currently orbiting our planet aboard the International Space Station, missed pizza so much that he boldly brought it up to his boss during a live streamed public event.

The result? Pizza in space. 

According to a tweet from Nespoli‏, his boss delivered the ingredients needed to construct some out of this world pizza pies. Fellow Expedition 53 crew member, astronaut Randy Bresnik‏, uploaded a minute-long video of the assembly process. Read more…
